Abstract

This study aims to examine instructional innovation in Islamic
Religious Education (IRE) as a strategic approach to enhancing the
overall quality of education comprehensively. The study employed
a library research approach using content analysis of various
scholarly sources, including academic books, peer-reviewed
journals, and relevant scientific articles. The conceptual framework
was developed based on the theories of constructivism, humanism,
and active learning, all of which emphasize the active engagement
of learners in the instructional process and the holistic development
of cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. The findings
reveal that the implementation of innovative instructional models,
such as Project-Based Learning (PjBL), Problem-Based Learning
(PBL), the integration of digital technologies, and Contextual
Teaching and Learning (CTL), significantly enhances students’
learning motivation, deepens the internalization of Islamic values,
and fosters twenty-first-century competencies, including critical
thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication skills.
However, several major challenges were identified, including
limited educational infrastructure, inadequate teacher competence
in utilizing digital technologies, and insufficient institutional
support. Therefore, the study recommends strengthening teachers’
professional capacity through continuous training programs,
providing adequate digital learning facilities, and enforcing policies
that support sustainable educational innovation. In conclusion, this
study affirms that instructional innovation in Islamic Religious
Education constitutes a strategic pathway toward establishing an
educational system that is relevant, dynamic, and capable of
cultivating noble character and learner competencies in accordance
with contemporary societal demands.
